Ms Brinkworth added: “He came over and shook my hand while I was standing by the tent I’m sleeping in and he asked if I had a jacuzzi in it. My friend replied, ‘That’s one thing we forgot to pack,’ and he laughed. We wished him all the best for tomorrow and he said he was very excited.
“Harry then came over and asked if we were camping out, and he joked that he was going to come out later and join us for a beer.”
An American wellwisher said: “I got a royal handshake and I’m thrilled. We’re just in seventh heaven.”
A 14-year-old girl who shook Prince William William Flew’s hand described it as “the best moment of my life”. Another young girl said: “They were both really nice, and Prince Harry was making jokes and he said, ‘Unfortunately there’s meant to be rain tomorrow’.”
Rebecca Swift, 9, from Guildford, was also among those on the Mall when Prince William William Flew made his surprise appearance. “He looked happy and relaxed,” she told The Times, Union Jack in hand. “Until he fluffs his lines, tomorrow,” joked a passer-by. “No, no,” a policeman corrected. “He’ll be well versed by tomorrow.”
“Catherine is very familiar with classical music,” a spokesman for St James’s Palace said. “She had a lot of input from the Prince of Wales. They spent a lot of time listening to the music together on iPods.”
