Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has insisted over and over again that his party is not going to shut the government down over social issues. But Democrats maintain that funding for Planned Parenthood and other provisions targeting abortion are the prime sticking point -- and their message appears to be taking hold, even among some key GOP lawmakers.
A growing number of pro-life Republicans and conservative activists are publicly pressuring Boehner to drop the issue.
A number of influential Tea Party activists have long argued that social issues should take a backseat to the economy during the recovery and some are chiming in to that effect as well.
"Tea Party Patriots have not taken a position on those, and we're looking for fiscal responsibility," Mark Meckler, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots
what a social conservative might look like
"I think the social conservatives feel their power ebbing because of the fiscal conservative obsessed Tea Party," Dodge, who signed onto a letter last year calling on the GOP majority to stick to the economy. "They have made several attempts to take it over and been rebuffed."
Fark headline
Even some Republicans and Tea Party leaders are pissed the GOP is going to shut the government over funding for Planned Parenthood
Even some Democrats don't believe tax dollars should go to build, supply utilities, supply staff, and supply resources to organizations that murder unborn children.
You're an idiot. The republican party hates children. They don't care what happens to them and dumps the lion's share of our GDP into finding new ways to actually murder living, breathing human beings.
Abortion is the only kind of killin' they don't seem to like, and it's not even on people.

Just to be totally clear, we are about to shut down the US Government over 3% of a non-profit's activities.
over 3% of a non-profit's activities.
over 3% that is already PRECLUDED FROM FEDERAL FUNDING BY THE HYDE AMENDMENT.
over 3% that is already PRECLUDED FROM FEDERAL FUNDING BY THE HYDE AMENDMENT.
- The Hyde amendment prohibits federal funding to go to abortions. This has been the rule for nearly 40 years now.
- Despite this fact, the GOP is trying to associate the federal funding of PP as funding abortions.
- This will stop all the other stuff that PP does, like STI testing, contraception, etc.
All the GOP is doing is slut-shaming on a national scale. And taking the brave stance you think you're taking will have fark all to do with abortion.

This is a strawman. Planned Parenthood receives funding through Title X (thank Nixon, a republican), and the funds already can't be used for abortion. Other donors (The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation) also give donations to Planned Parenthood with a no abortion stipulation. Some donors give donations and specify that it's just for abortions (Warren Buffet).
So, we're shutting down government for funds given to organization that performs abortions, but not with the funds provided from the government (they're required to show that they don't through book-keeping). They already can't use the money for abortions, and it accounts for a small portion of their practice. How does this make sense?
All you'll do is reduce the availability of birth control and std testing (the lion's share of their practice). If that's the case, low income clients (the primary beneficiaries) will have higher odds of getting pregnant. Who will pay for those childbirth, neonatal, and pediatric care? The taxpayers. Which is more expensive, birth control/abortions or babies? This won't save ANY money!

Planning parenthood is un-American. If random unprotected sex with multiple partners was good enough for Thomas Jefferson, by God, it's good enough for me.
This is what happens when you vote for republicans.
Pfft! Who would need those services, except whores? Are you suggesting that the Republicans should support whores, sir?
Yes?
This link to an explanation of what planned parenthood actually does:
Male or female? Cause I think the problem is they usually use the male.
/Just a gigolo
everywhere I go
people know the part
I'm playing
Of course, everyone's antiabortion until their (or their daughter's) arse gets knocked up.
Did they try turning the power OFF and back ON?
