William Flew on Paedophile Catholic Priests

Oh goody

Another Fark thread bashing the Catholics and the Republican Party

Started with this
New Hampshire state House majority leader responds to a Catholic bishop's criticism of the Republican budget by respectfully addressing the bishop's concerns. Nah, I'm kidding, he called him a "pedophile pimp"

So kiddy diddling priests vs. Republicans.

Having a difficult time figuring out who to root for.

Republicans vs Catholic Church? Do I really have to pick a favourite? Can't I just detest them equally?

If you have to, pick the Church. They have protected pedophiles, they sequester vast wealth, and they oppose all abortion, but they at least openly acknowledge Jesus' command to support the needy and weak, and oppose the death penalty, which at least makes them somewhat consistent.

It IS a slim margin of victory, I concede.
Let's be fair here. Catholics believe that contraception is a worse problem than paedophilia. Not all Catholics molest children, but by continuing to give money to their church, all Catholics support child rape.

Over the last seven days...

Alabama: Pastor Barry Albert Cook charged with sexual abuse and torture of a child.

South Carolina: Pastor Jonathan Roberts charged with felonious theft of church money.

New York: Father Thomas Kreiser charged with using $25K in church donations for online gambling.

Wisconsin: Pastor Philip Caminiti charged with eight felony counts of child abuse for beating children as young as two months old.

Oklahoma: Pastor Vincent Brookfield charged with seven felony counts of molesting a seven year-old girl.

North Carolina: Pastor Paul Burke Johnson charged with four counts of sexual battery on a mentally impaired woman.

Iowa: Pastor Patrick Edouard charged with raping three women in his congregation.

Utah: Pastor Aaron Witcher sentenced to five years to life in prison on two counts of rape of a minor.

Pennsylvania: Father Ralph Johnson sentenced to four years in prison for child molestation. Johnson is 84.

New York: Rabbi Saul Kassin confesses to multimillion dollar money laundering scheme involving sales of human organs and counterfeit handbags.

Florida: Teacher at private Christian school charged with beating a 12 year-old boy unconscious with a broomstick.

Wisconsin: Father Joseph Gibbs charged with fondling a teenage girl. Gibbs allegedly threatened to sue the girl's family if she told.

Illinois: Imprisoned child molester Father Donald McGuire reveals evidence that his parish knew of his crimes and did nothing.

This Week's Winner:

Oregon: In one of the largest settlements ever paid by a religious group, Northwest's Jesuits have agreed to pay $166M to nearly 500 victims of sexual abuse by priests. Most of the victims are Native Americans abused as children at Jesuit parish schools across the Pacific northwest and in Alaska. The settlement, which will largely be paid by an insurance company, is part of a bankruptcy reorganization plan.

Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, farks little boys, its probably a priest.

seen the info out of belgium middle of last year? virtually EVERY PARISH in belgium had rapist priests. they knew about it and seemed like they just didnt talk about it, the way people at normal jobs dont talk about, i dunno, how all the guys in sales go to strip clubs or the developers smell like BO or something.

How many parishes around the world have to demonstrate this before its recognized as basically an institutional phenomenon? its EVERYWHERE and has been for generations. Ireland, Belgium, all over the east coast... its freakin all over.

a "holy institution" that tolerates and turns a blind eye to child rape, and then protects its own when theyre called out on it.

Incidentally there are a bunch of other large orginizations that cover up abuse and rape.

If you condemn an innocent priest because some other priest is an abuser, which you have, I would like you to demonstrate logical consistency (even if I think you're being irrational overall) and also condemn anyone who joins the US military and the Peace Corp, throw in U.N. supporters while you're at it please.

I wouldn't condemn these people, personally I blame only those directly responsible, and those who acted to cover it up; just like the rest of society, some terrible people can fake it well enough to make it through, but by your reasoning, they are all responsible. So please, in your own words, condemn them all, no exceptions for the innocent.
